Peter de Groot lives in the Sandridge Ward and he works in the City of Port Phillip. He is independent and is not a member of any political party.

Peter is employed by the Bendigo Bank to build relationships within the Port Phillip Community. Peter has valuable experience in managing a business.  He operated a Licensed Post Office for seven years before profitably selling the business in 2001. He was once a member of the Liberal Party because that was the party that decriminalized homosexuality in Victoria in 1980. He resigned because he is more interested in community issues than state or federal politics.

Peter is well known for his fervor for the community with his fundraising activities, having raised thousands of dollars for various charities. He has been very active with the local seniors citizens program, Linking Neighbors, for many years.   He is passionate about the arts, and is a radio broadcaster on Joy 94.9 on ‘The Cabaret Room’ which airs on Sunday nights 9pm.

He is also ardent in his support for GLBTI rights (gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, transgender and intersex), and is the treasurer of Bent TV Inc which is the GLBTI content provider to Channel 31.

Peter is a supporter of the Port Melbourne Football Club and a regular at the Genesis gym in Port Melbourne.
